Forgotten what's in that folder? Just want to see the images, and links to the web-pages and text files in a directory on your computer. We know how you feel. Gallery-lite Inspector is another tiny program that you run on your PC to automatically create a new web page on your PC. When you open the new page in your browser all the images in the directory will appear, with no need of further attention from you. The speed of loading depends only on the speed of your disc and the size and number of images in your directory. If you are impatient then you could minimise the browser window and get back to work on something else! A while later you go back and open the window and you have a gallery of JPG and GIF images to see, every one in the chosen directory, along with clickable links to every HTM (or HTML) and TXT file in the directory. This can be handy for remembering what you have saved before. It can also be a quick start to the development of a web page for later editing and uploading to a remote server.
Unlike the full version of Gallery, Gallery-lite Inspector is not restricted to finding images that are part of a number series. However it must be run on the same computer that holds the images and cannot be used to harvest images from a remote site.

Warning:
This program is offered without warranty of any sort. If you are
not comfortable with DOS utilities or are uncertain about your
ability to assess the suitability of this software for your
intended purpose then please do not use it.
This product is now in testing, if you really want to try it then feel free to download a trial copy.
Instructions:
There are two ways to use Gallery-lite Inspector. The first
is the simplest if you are a DOS person, the other is for Windows
95 types.
1. DOS method. First you must place a copy of inspect.exe in a directory listed in your DOS path. Then whenever you want to use it:
2. Windows 95 method.
Either way, processing will be complete in a flash (after all this is a DOS program!), a new file with the name "local.htm" will have been created in the current directory. You may open this file with your browser at any time and watch your gallery grow. (Actually the best way to handle a big folder is to open a new browser window, then use the Open File in Browser command. You can minimise the window while the browser is fetching your images.)
If you intend to use your gallery as the start for composing a web-page then we suggest that you rename local.htm to something else, e.g. index.htm so it will not get overwritten next time.
Unlike the full version of Gallery, there are no questions to answer and it is not restricted to finding images that are part of a number series. On the other hand, Gallery-lite Inspector must be run on the same computer that holds the images etc.
I have read and understood the warning above and I want to download inspect.exe now.
If you enjoy using Gallery or Gallery-lite Inspector, a donation of $5, or any amount, would be appreciated. Send by snail mail in a plain brown envelope. Any currency welcome (even obscure foreign notes are welcomed by our local church charities).

Q. Where should I put Gallery-lite Inspector on my
PC?
A. There is only one file, inspect.exe. Ideally, it should be in
any directory included in your DOS path. Alternatively, if you
always work from a particular directory, e.g. 'My documents', or
'work', or 'trash' etc., then put it there.
Q. Will Gallery-lite Inspector run under Windows 3?
A. Yes.
Q. Will Gallery-lite Inspector run on a Mac.?
A. No.
Q. Will you do a version to run on a Mac.?
A. One day, if enough people ask.
Q. What will the Windows version be like?
A. It will take 10 times as long to download and will run at half
the speed. It will probably not be free. It will be late.
Q. I want to look at all the pictures on another site on the
Internet, how do I use Gallery-lite Inspector to do that.
A. You can't. Try Gallery
instead.
Q. I try to download Gallery-lite Inspector, but
while inspect.exe is coming the saving file box just disappears,
how do I do it?
A. You already have. Inspect.exe is extermely small, only about
4K, so if you blink you will miss it, don't worry.
Q. In Local.htm some file names look strange.
A. Yes, it still uses the 8.3 system. They all work.
Q. I rename local.htm to index.htm and then ftp the whole directory to
my web server. It should work but the links do not work any more. When I open
index.htm on my computer it works fine. Why?
A. Look at the file names in the directory on the server. If the server
is case-sensitive and the names are not all the same as reported by DOS then
the links will fail. It works on your computer because the operating reports
file names the same way to the browser as it it did to inspector. The solution
is to manually edit index.htm before you upload it to ensure that the image and
file names are the same as reported in the ftp directory of your server. You
could also take this opportunity to add a caption or comment for each item.
