| SAVE THE
SOUTH COAST FORESTS: WHAT YOU CAN DO! |
The South Coast forests must not be left to be clearfelled or intensively logged for woodchips or for fuel for power plants. Bob Carrs most important 1995 election promise was to save the old growth and wilderness forests.
Your personal letter to Bob Carr is very important, he is about to make a decision about the future of these forests and the precious coastal lakes and catchments which they protect.
Send your letter to :
Premier Bob Carr
Parliament House
Macquarie Street
SYDNEY NSW 2000
IN YOUR LETTER PLEASE MAKE THE FOLLOWING POINTS :
Insist that ALL old-growth, threatened species habitat and wilderness forests (and their catchments) are immediately protected from logging in new national parks
Insist that ALL the South Coast community reserve proposals developed by conservation groups be protected as new national parks
Demand that the South Coast be declared a WOODCHIP FREE ZONE
Woodchipping and intensive logging of beautiful and biologically complex native forests must end. The Premier promised to end export woodchipping by 2000 - will this promise be kept?
Call for a transition to an ecologically and economically sustainable timber industry based on PLANTATIONS and secure employment, such as that currently underway in Queensland. In NSW, $120 million of public money is to be spent on the promised restructure of the timber industry but there is no plantation transition plan.
Ask the Premier to regard your letter as a response to the public consultation on the Regional Forest Assessment for the South Coast
