HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THE RAILWAY

"This could be fun". Well, that's right you can really enjoy being part of this Railway. So read on and think about how you can contribute. There is so much you can learn about the Railway,

  • Customer service (Station and Ticket Office)
  • Railway Operations (Driver, Guard & Signaller)
  • Administration Skills
  • Mechanics (Engines, Repairs & Maintenance)
  • Engineering & Construction
  • Signalling
  • Public Relations
  • Gardening & Ground Maintenance

    STATION and the PUBLIC

We need people to help operate and man the stations. This is a great introduction to our railway where you meet all your fellow members as well as greet and assist the general public boarding and alighting from our trains. It is the place to liaise with the public, and where we seek to present our organisation in the best light.

    ROLLING STOCK

The Locomotive fleet consists of models of steam, diesel & electric outline locomotives owned by the railway and by private members.

You can help in the workshop, or with the running of the trains. Helping repair and maintain the Rolling Stock and Locomotives. You could perform vital work and make a real difference in this area.

Driving a train is a responsibility and a fulfilling experience, that you attain after an easy but regulated training regime. Then there is the ultimate and challenging opportunity to train and be a steam loco driver which requires a different set of skills. Talk to one of our steam drivers anytime you are at the Railway, they love the challenge!

    SIGNALLING & SAFEWORKING

All signalling used at the railway incorporates old and modern style signalling systems controlled by electronically operated boxes located at strategic positions around the railway. Much work is required in this specialised field.

Being a Guard is a great benefit to the railway, and is the stepping stone to driving locomotives or a signalman, all of which is very Rewarding. Controlling the passage of the trains is a vital and responsible task to keep the railway running.

Then there is the behind the scenes work of wiring, laying cable, fault fixing, and many other activities.

    TRACK & LINESIDE FEATURES

Building and maintaining the track and buildings helps the railway keep on working and operating. Another enduring feature of the Railway is the ongoing need for members to preserve the bushland environment, parks and gardens along the banks of the Narara Creek through which the trains run.
