elcome to the January-February Walks Program!
This program each year makes me think of lazy
days spent relaxing around pools in mountain creeks;
floating on a lilo in the swirling water; sheltering under
rocky overhangs from the rays of the baking noon sun,
listening to the sounds of cicadas reach a peak and
then die away for a short moment; or dark clouds
gathering, then sounds of raindrops pounding on the
ground and ripples spreading outwards on the water.
As usual you will find plenty of walks in this
program on which you can enjoy a wonderful summer
of bushwalking. The Field Activities Committee is
having a campaign to encourage new and existing
NPA members to enjoy our great national parks
through our NPA Walks Program. Our walkers already
know how great NPA activities are - but there are NPA
members out there who have never been on one of our
walks!!
Later in the walks program you will find contact
details for four NPA members (myself, Greg Bridge,
Steve Bennetts, and Henry Roda). If you want
information about bushwalking in general or NPA walks
in particular, please contact any of these people. Our
aim is to make it easier for all members to participate
on NPA activities without worries about what to bring,
what to wear, how to book etc etc. Don’t hesitate to
contact one of these people and then go on an NPA
walk.
Greg is also leading two trips especially for new
NPA members - a good way to get started on NPA
bushwalking. The trips are on Jan 23 and Feb 28, so
see the Program for more details.
And on coming events, you will find an advance
notice for 1999 Six Foot Track Walk on March 20.
Katoomba to Jenolan Caves in one day is a tough walk
but very rewarding. There was tremendous interest in
the walk last year so please book early.
