Unexpected Visitor: XPT from Lismore.
7th June 2003 was our regular public running day. We received a pleasant surprise when Peter Laws decided to come by with his XPT. It is usually operated by his nephew Brian Grey as a commercial operation in Lismore.

Business as usual. Lorne Brack moving the crowd.

I asked Peter about the other end of the train. He said that another unit was under consideration. It would be the same except for:
- colour scheme: Olympic blue and gold
- controls: a second set to be accessible from the first riding car, to allow for driver training and for drivers of more than Australian standard body size. (I think that the train would look better without a full size human sticking out from the roof!)
- gauge: convertible between 7 1/2" and 7 1/4"
The reasons for the second two points are that he plans to ship the new loco to the USA in three years time and to have a holiday visiting as many tracks as possible there.

Do I really want to learn this trade? (XPT11.jpg)
Now that’s more like what I want to drive. (XPT12.jpg)
Yes, I want to drive it now! (XPT13.jpg)
