Ivan Burns’ thing

Don’t forget the next Lions Club run on the 18th of October.

The work that has been carried out over the last month has seen the placement of the top over the dish drain at the bottom steaming bay thanks to Norm Browne for organising his son with a truck and Hiab crane and the members who have assisted in getting this project finished.

John Crowhurst and Ivan Burns undertook one of those rainy day projects recently and replaced the aging lights over the top steaming bay between showers.

Peter Holt has been continuing to paint the inside of the hall this time painting the ceilings in the toilets.

The most important boiler in the club (the hot water urn) recently failed and was despatched to the workshops for repairs after some attempted repairs the boiler was declared a failure and condemned. A replacement boiler was fitted by Bruce Langdon and after a trial steaming was declared fit for traffic on the 19th of July.

There has been a considerable amount of concreting done recently around the grounds the most recent being around the top steaming bay where a path and the base of the ramp to the steaming bay have been concreted.

Further to this Allan Foggarty has with assistance from various members carried out the following work around the club

  1. A 14 metre extension to the 71/4" platform including the excavation, forming up and drainage construction.
  2. Completion of the concrete in the top steaming bay including the excavation, forming up installation of an additional tap near the 71/4" platform extensions and additional drainage.
  3. Construction of a new fence between the top steaming bay and the 71/4" platform.
  4. Construction of a fence around the long loading bay in the top steaming bay.
  5. Dig around 35 metres of drains and lay pipes and start construction of 9 drainage sumps.
  6. Fill the depression between the 71/4" and 5" tracks at the church end and construct a new drain sump.

In doing all these jobs the club has taken delivery of a total of 4.6 cubic metres of concrete thanks to the generosity of Pioneer Concrete.

All of this has meant that Allan has spent 160 hours in 24 days over a 5week period to get these projects to the stage there at now. Thanks to Allan for all the hard work.

This newsletter is a little shorter than usual but after the birthday run I’ll hopefully have big newsletter. We’ve managed to stay well inside Australia Posts 50c loading gauge don’t forget the birthday run.
