WHATS NEWS.

As you walk around the club you will notice some things that have obviously changed and some that may not be so obvious.

Fire Extinguishers. How many people would have given any thought to these pieces of equipment. The answer not many including the Editor but thanks to the efforts of Ron Cowell and John Crowhurst the club has now got fire extinguishers in the areas where we need them such as the workshop and hall as well as other areas of the club and van.

The September running day was a fairly good day crowd wise with the numbers being fairly constant all day. The whistle out list looked fairly good for the September running day with the following locos being available for traffic:

Club Loco

As well as our own club members locos we had three visiting locos in the form of Dave Kirkland’s Bumble Bee and Kimba as well as a Tram from the S.L.S.L.S.

It was good to see Norm Browne’s Simplex out for a run as well as Peter Holt’s C9 on a trial trip after some minor attention in the workshops for both the driver and the loco plumbing is apparently Pete’s speciality. Leal Brack was also noted trialing his new loco number 10 which seems to be running better each trip.

On Tuesday the 9th of September one of our long standing projects got a fairly good kick along when Allan Fogarty and Ken Howells started forming up for the driveway in preparation for the pouring of the first of many loads of concrete the first of which arrived on Thursday the 11th of September.

The first pour of 3.6 cubic metres was laid by the following members, Allan Fogarty, Ken Howells, Norm Browne, Ivan Burns, Bruce Langdon, Kelly Maybury, John and Evelyn Crowhurst.

Just when the day was coming to an end and backs were starting to give out our friends from Pioneer Concrete came good with another 1.4 metres at about 3-00 giving us a total of 5 metres for the day.

A great deal of thanks should go to these members for there efforts.

Other work that has been undertaken by members of late has been the laying of some additional concrete slabs in the party area for more tables, thanks to Allan Fogarty for his assistance on this project.

Tom Walker has been giving some attention to an out of gauge set of points on the 71/4 party loop.

Arthur Minter and Kelly Maybury have been painting and cleaning the top steaming bay.

We have been given some shrubs by Gosford City Council to beautify the grounds and these have duly been planted by the members of the Thursday Gang and dutifully watered by Keith and Margaret Lewis on there morning constitutional.

John and Evelyn Crowhurst and Keith Lewis have been working on extending the footpath down to the bottom steaming bay with two retaining walls being constructed to enable the ramp to be back filled between the drain and the 71/4 carriage tunnel.

Our treasurer, Norm Browne wishes to thank the members for there indulgence in allowing him and his grandsons to play trains for the first time since joining the club at the last running day. We really don’t mind Norm but do you have to be as tight with the steam as you are with the money ?

A thought for the month from our treasurer:

Eggs and Bacon – A days work for a chicken, a life time commitment for a pig.

I’m not quite sure what he’s suggesting with this little piece but help save a pig today don’t eat bacon.

Donations for the save a pig foundation will be gladly accepted by our Treasurer Norm Browne who isn’t counting his chickens before they’ve hatched.

Well you’re up to date with most of the news and we’ve managed to stay inside the Australia post loading gauge once more until next time keep up the training.
