WHATS NEWS
I’M BACK.
Well at least temporarily until our president is well enough to take the regulator once again. Kelly has been unwell for the last few months and will hopefully be back on the footplate shortly so that I don’t have to start doing these bloody newsletters again on a regular basis but anyway here goes with the latest happenings from the club.
The Lions Club Run that was postponed in April due to an Interclub Wedding (Congratulations to the new Mr & Mrs Crowhurst), Steamfest and the Central Coast Hobby Expo will now be held on the 21st of May 2005.
We would like to see as many members as possible at this run as the normal May Running Day was basically a washout due to the wet weather on the 7th of May. Thank you to those members who turned out on the 7th, despite the dismal weather. It’s the first time that I can recall there being more members than passengers watching the departure of the first train at 1100.
Following the success of our members playday that was held on the New Years Day this year we have decided to have a playday mid year as well the date for this will be Sunday the 17th of July and this day is again open to members and visitors alike. The club will provide a BBQ lunch and Tea and Coffee as we did at the last Playday.
Our 24th birthday run will be held on the weekend of August 6th and 7th, 2005 and the arrangements will be as follows.
A bottomless cup of tea and coffee will be available from the van and dinner will be provided on Saturday Night COULD MEMBERS PLEASE LET EDITH BEARMAN KNOW IF THEY ARE GOING TO ATTEND. This is so that Edith only has to do guesstimate the numbers for the visitors.
All the usual things like Hot Air, Char, Petrol, Water, 5” and 71/4” track will be available for use from 1000 to 2200 on Saturday and 1100 to 1700 on the Sunday.
John Crowhurst has finished the restoration of another fine model and this was on show at the April Club Meeting.
John has taken the time to restore the clubs Lawn Mowing Roster and photographed copies of this were given to members at the meeting. For those of you who were not lucky enough to receive a photograph please see John and he will gladly provide a photographed copy of this fine restoration for all your Lawn Mowing needs.
Progress is being made with Gosford City Council on the Development Application and while this may seem slow the board has at this stage chosen to take a softly-softly approach to the D.A. as this has so far seen a number of fees and other issues waived by council.
On a more positive note at a cost to the club of $330 Gosford City Council has agreed to provide street signs at each end of Showground Road that provide direction for visitors to our club.
Our low supplies of Char have been replenished thanks to Ken Howells who picked up 20 bags of Char from the supplier in Sydney prior to the May Running Day.
On the subject of Char the board has done some investigation and has found that char can be purchased from Victoria at a cost of about $800 a tonne this is equal to about 50 bags and a bit cheaper. We are currently investigating ways of storing this much Char on the club grounds.
Could all members please ensure that all the clubs external equipment such as turntables and gates are properly locked to avoid injury and vandalism?
Over the Anzac Long Weekend the Central Coast Hobby Expo was held and successfully raised about $7500 for the Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter Service.
Our club again took part in the expo and thanks to a raffle that was conducted by us we were able to provide the sundries such as fencing from the proceeds of the raffle.
The following people should be thanked for there help with our stand at the exhibition.
Derek Burch, John Mills, John Gordon, George Davies, Leon Brack, Michael, Joey, Douglas and Graham Crowhurst, Noel Richards and Family and the Lougher Family.
The Exhibition showed that there is a lot of interest in modelling of Stationary Engines from not only our own members but also the public.
The circuit of Garden Gauge track that we had trains running on around the perimeter of our display also attracted more than a few enquiries.
As a result of these enquiries the board is looking into building an air manifold to allow members to run stationary engines on air at exhibitions and running days and also the possibility of an area being set aside for a garden gauge railway to be set up on running days for the members.
The May running day was a washout due to the wet weather that moved in overnight on Friday. While we didn’t cancel the day the passenger numbers were down on what is usually one of the busiest days of the year.
Some of the members took advantage of the small passenger numbers and had a playday instead.
Keith Lewis and Rob Lougher were both doing steam trials on there locos Keith trialing the “P” Class and Rob Lougher doing the first steam trial on the new “Ajax” loco.
Leal Brack was seen carrying passengers behind his 0-4-0 Number 10.
Leon Brack and Graham Crowhurst were noted double heading a train with there “Mother Goose” and “Diggers Truck”.
Mick Farrell was giving 985 a whirl around the block.
The clubs 80 Class provide the balance of the motive power to move the balance of the days patronage.
I’ve included some photos of the exhibition and of the clubs newest steam loco my Ajax undergoing its first steam trial.
Some the items displayed including John Gordons 42105 and some of the stationary engines supplied by Derek Burch and John Mills.
Some of the members who manned the display:
Noel Richards, Graham Crowhurst, Jacqui Richards, Ken Howells and Rob Lougher
Running Day 7 May, 2005 saw the first steaming of the clubs newest steam loco Rob Loughers Ajax with assistance of 2705s tender.
